Naomi Ackie is a British actress celebrated for her dynamic performances across film and television. Born on November 2, 1992, in Walthamstow, London, to Grenadian immigrant parents, she began acting at age 11 and later trained at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She gained early recognition for her role in Lady Macbeth (2016), earning the British Independent Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer.
Ackie achieved international fame portraying Jannah in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019). She further showcased her talent in the Netflix series The End of the F**ing World* (2019), for which she won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Supporting Actress. Her portrayal of Whitney Houston in the 2022 biopic I Wanna Dance with Somebody was widely praised, with Ackie capturing Houston’s essence through extensive preparation, including dialect coaching and movement training. While most of the film’s vocals are Houston’s, Ackie contributed her singing for specific emotional scenes.
