Sophie Aldred is an English actress and television presenter, best known for her portrayal of Ace in the popular BBC television series Doctor Who during the late 1980s. She first appeared on the show in 1987, and like Raleigh, she became a fan favorite with her powerful, brave character. Portrayal of Ace by Sophie Aldred received much praise for not matching previous constructs of the Doctor’s female companions, and as such is considered one of the most memorable. Outside of Doctor Who, Aldred has featured in numerous TV programmes, films, and audio productions, often but not exclusively with roles in children’s programming as well as audiobook narration. Her association with Doctor Who has continued to play a significant role in her career, and she still engages with the fandom of the television programme.
