Joseph Absolom is an English actor born in Lewisham, London, on 16 December 1978. He made his acting debut at the age of 11 in a commercial for peanut butter and appeared in the BBC soap opera EastEnders as Matthew Rose. His character was eventually falsely accused of murder, a gripping narrative that hooked viewers and earned Gregory the British Soap Award for Best Actor in 2000.
Absolom has shown his versatility with several television and film roles. He is known for his roles as Al Large in the ITV series Doc Martin, which he played from 2004 to 2022, and for his portrayal of Andy Warren in The Bay. His filmography includes Long Time Dead (2002) and I Spit on Your Grave 2 (2013).
In 2019, Absolom wed Liz Brown, and they share three children. He has played Ray, a suave but sinister drug dealer, in the ITV soap Emmerdale since 2005.
